Does your nail polish include a toxic trio?

Conventional nail polishes contain formaldehyde, toluene and dibutul phthalate (or DBP), known as the ‘toxic trio’. Formaldehyde is the stuff that’s used to preserve dead things, a known human carcinogen and can also cause eye, throat, nose and skin irritation. DBP is a known reproductive and developmental toxin. Toluene is a possible reproductive and developmental toxin and can also cause headaches, dizziness and fatigue. All these chemicals can be absorbed into the body through the nail bed.

The harmful chemicals in nail polishes put more than your health at risk. You wouldn’t throw house paint house paint in the trash – nail polishes can leech their toxicity into the soil and groundwater in the same way. In many cities’ waste facilities, nail polish is categorized as ‘hazardous waste’ along with car batteries and insecticides. Which is actually pretty scary!

At juju we use and sell Zoya nail polishes that are free of the toxic trio, and have been awarded as the longest wearing natural nail polish by Women’s Health Magazine. Our nail technicians, Tammi and Lisa, have a loyal following as their manis and pedis are known to stay perfect for a long time! Call the salon for appointment: 215-238-6080.
